The mountains are home.
Master Hoshino leading yamabushi training on Mt. Haguro.
The mountains are calling. The mountains are welcoming. The mountains are home.
The mountains remind us of who we truly are.
If we only let them.
And letting them is what The Yamabushido Team are all about.
Uketamo, the philosophy of the yamabushi of north Japan, is about just that; acceptance. The Yamabushi understand that acceptance is the key to living a good life. And getting out into the mountains is the first step in understanding Uketamo.
For the yamabushi, summer means just one thing: time to don your white robes, put your split-toe tabi on, grab your stick, and head out to the mountains for some serious yamabushi training.
The three Dewa Sanzan peaks have emerged from their blanket of snow, and the lush greenery unlike anywhere, anywhen, else is enticing us into the mountains. Into our home.
And we want you to join us.
Receiving an amulet from Master Hoshino.
Our five-day Basic Yamabushi Training, the first official yamabushido training for the year, begins June 17. We will be closing applications soon, however there are still some spots available for the same training in October.
Then in each of July, August, and September, our very own Master Hoshino will be leading our signature Masters Yamabushi Training. The Masters Yamabushi Training is you on the mountains of north Japan under the guidance of Zen masters, Master Hoshino, and other yamabushi on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery.
Last year one of our participants had this to say:
“The Masters Shugyo Program will exercise the opening of your heart in many ways as it takes us to the sacred mountains of Dewa Sanzan. There you will feel the grandeur of nature, its generosity, its fierceness and because of this, the presence of the kami. Master Hoshino will teach you the concept that you will probably use for the rest of your life - UKETAMO and that alone is worth the entire program.”
But you better get in quick, spots are filling up fast!
